HCPs have a positive opinion of the sector’s commitment to research and development

They did amazing work, some of the pharmaceutical companies put an awful amount of effort into research and development of drugs that we hadn’t seen before. They went, not the extra mile, they probably went two or three extra miles, to ensure that not just only patients but healthcare professionals were okay Chief Pharmacist

R&D activities remain a key strength for the sector. Almost nine in ten HCPs agree that pharmaceutical companies invest in high quality research of new medicines – a slightly higher proportion than in October 2020. HCPs also overwhelmingly agree that the sector employs highly skilled staff, uses cutting-edge technology and ensures the safety of their medicines.

The advancements we have had in medical technology and in terms of pharmaceuticals over the last 15-20 years has been remarkable. There are so many medications out there now which we couldn’t have dreamed of 15-20 years ago. Pharmaceutical companies are again recognised for their contributions to deliver positive outcomes for health through developing new and effective medicines and listening to healthcare professionals.

I think they’re huge employers, they’re high quality jobs, they attract incredibly talented scientists to work on their products. I think they do try dramatically to get involved with patient populations, to get key messages over in chronic conditions management and they link in with the associations that represent these populations GP

As seen in October 2020, HCPs believe the sector contributes to wider society in the UK. The majority agree that pharma companies make a positive financial contribution to the economy, create lots of jobs, and make a positive contribution to societal challenges.
